HYDERABAD: E Harish Goud, a 25-year-old construction worker from Sangareddy district, who was involved in the brutal rape and murder of a tribal woman at Choutuppal police station in Rachakonda was arrested and arraigned in court on Wednesday.

Police said the accused was found within 24 hours and the silver items he stole from the 28-year-old victim were also recovered. They found out that Harish had raped the victim even after her death. ACP Choutuppal N Uday Reddy said the defendant took advantage of the victim being alone in the godown where she and her husband worked. He attacked and raped her.

When she resisted and threatened to inform her husband, Harish killed her and stole her silver items. “Based on the circumstantial and technical evidence, the accused has been identified and arrested,” he added.

The victim and her husband, belonging to Nagarkurnool district, migrated to Choutuppal to earn a living and have been guardians of a godown for the past two months. The accused came to Choutuppal three weeks ago and started working in a dairy which is next to the godown where the victim worked.

While working, he noticed that the victim was alone all day, as her husband was going to work at a college and was waiting for an opportunity to assault her. On Monday evening, he entered the premises of the godown, approached the victim to ask him for sexual favors. When she refused, Harish overpowered and raped her.

When she threatened to inform her husband, he hit her head with a stick. As she collapsed and was bleeding from the head, he raped her again. The incident erupted when the victim’s husband, who came home from work on Monday night, found her dead in a pool of blood.
