Man injured in serious accident at Broadbeach construction site

A Gold Coast tradesman was injured in a serious work accident at a construction site in Broadbeach this morning.

The incident unfolded around 8am this morning on George Avenue when a piling rig overturned onto nearby buildings narrowly missing.

Queensland Ambulance Service operations supervisor Joel McEwan said this morning that a man had been ‘thrown’ from a piling platform.

‘At approximately 8am this morning Queensland Ambulance Service received a triple 0 call for a 67 year old man who had been thrown from a 55 tonne pile driver,’ he said.

“The rig is used to drill fairly deep holes on large construction sites.

“QAS responded with intensive care, paramedic and high acuity units. We located a 67-year-old man with an open lower leg fracture.

Paramedics attempted to treat the man at the scene before transporting him to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in stable condition.
