New West cops arrest B&E suspect at construction site

B&E suspect arrested while stealing various construction items – and hand sanitizer

A 30-year-old Surrey resident has been arrested after he was caught carrying various stolen items from a building site in Sapperton.

The New Westminster Police Department reports officers were called to a construction site on Nelson’s Crescent in the early hours of Monday, March 28. A security firm has alerted police to a break-in in progress, after surveillance cameras showed a suspect at the site picking up the items.

“The people in charge of this construction site have done the right thing by putting in place a lifeguard,” said NWPD spokesman Sgt. Sanjay Kumar in a press release. “We encourage all businesses to work with us proactively to prevent theft. If you haven’t spoken to us yet, we’d be happy to discuss security options you can consider for your business.

According to the NWPD, as officers searched the construction site, they observed someone matching the suspect’s description exiting a trailer carrying boxes of items. NWPD officers took him into custody.

The police department told the Disk items stolen included hand sanitizer, zip ties, drill bits, a commercial swivel anchor, flashlight and tie down straps.

The New Westminster Police Department reminds residents to call 911 if they see a break and enter in progress.
